(Laredo, Texas)- If it’s a new semester, it’s time for a new app!

The Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) mobile phone and tablet application, “TAMIU Mobile,” has been updated and redesigned to better fit TAMIU students’ and visitors’ needs.

The free app is available from iTunes and Google Play apps stores.

TAMIU students will find convenient access to student schedules, grades, Banner notifications and Degree Works through TAMIU Mobile.

Faculty will also have access to TAMIU Mobile and can receive new notifications, class schedules and rosters.

Everyone will have access to TAMIU news, calendar and information on campus services, such as the TAMIU Bookstore, Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library and TAMIU office hours and locations.

The campus directory lets users search the entire campus for a specific department, faculty member or staff phone number.

It also lets people find their way around TAMIU with an aerial view of campus. All buildings are identified with a pin. Fore more detailed information, visitors click on a specific pin for a photo of the building.

The app was tailored for users by the University’s Office of Information Technology (OIT), said TAMIU director of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services, Steve Harmon.

“This is really an enterprising, in-your-pocket solution by OIT that marshals the most popular information sources to meet the needs of our University community and the community at large in an easy-to-use app.  It’s been designed to be responsive for both smartphone and tablet and its architecture is nimble enough to grow with our needs and user preferences,” Harmon said.

“We have seen an enormous increase in mobile access for University services and resources and this helps us to stay in front of those needs,” he noted.

The University was among the first South Texas institutions to launch its own app in 2011.

OIT Team members developing the new App were Ricardo Ramírez, associate director of Student Info Services; Eric B. García, senior software applications developer, and Roberto Treviño, programmer II.
