United ISD statement regarding K-9 Sweep at John B. Alexander High School

Courtesy Veronica Cantu,

(Laredo, Texas)-A pre-planned, unannounced search for illegal drugs and weapons was conducted at John B. Alexander High School this morning.  The sweep was very successful and was facilitated by Webb County Attorney’s Office K-9 “SAFE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT” Task Force along with UISD Police, federal agencies and other local law enforcement agencies.

The District is proud to report that no illegal drugs or weapons were found.

The sweep began at approximately 10:00 a.m. and concluded at approximately 11:20 a.m. The campus was placed in a “stay put” mode which required all students to remain in their assigned classrooms.

Alexander High School Principal, Ernesto Sandoval, Jr., stated, “the purpose of today’s exercise was to help us maintain a safe and drug-free school environment. I am pleased to announce to the John B. Alexander community and parents that no illegal substances or weapons were found during the search. I am very proud of our students. This was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate to our students, faculty, and staff that we take the problem of drugs and weapons on school grounds seriously and we will continue to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of all.”

The United Independent School District took this proactive approach in order to provide intervention and awareness for students, parents and staff.  The District will continue conducting random K-9 sweeps in all of our schools in order to maintain safe, drug/weapon-free environments.

Should anyone have information about drugs or weapons on school grounds, we encourage you to report this to your school officials or to UISD Police immediately.
