W.C.S.O. traffic stop leads to cash

Laredo, TX (Webb County) – A man is facing federal charges following a traffic stop Monday by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office which led to thousands of U.S. dollars.
Sheriff Deputies patrolling Interstate 35 south near mile marker 22 stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Upon further inspection of the 2006 Chevy 4-door, driven by Hector Ramirez Escalera, 61, deputies found a total of 44 bundles of hundreds of cash hidden in a compartment. A total of $205,880 was seized.
Ramirez Escalera, a Mexican national, was turned over to U.S. Marshals for federal prosecution.
“We will continue to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity at each and every scene that we respond to in an effort to curb illegal activity,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
