El Merolico, A One Act Play, Debuts at Laredo Public Library

(Laredo, TX   El Merolico, an interactive one act play in Spanish written by Marco Franco*, will be performed this Saturday July 26, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Laredo Public Library H-E-B Multi-Purpose Room, 1120 East Calton Road. El Merolico is the story of a homeless man with a tragic past who earns a living speaking in the streets about the mysteries of life and death with a touch of humor. Franco based his main character, El Merolico, on a person he encountered on the streets in Monclova, Coahuila while working as a reporter.

 

Renowned actor, Ernesto Adame, will play the other main character, Gaudencio Villalba, a formal mature gentleman who interacts with the Merolico.  “The play portrays the human condition traits of humor, betrayal, happiness, suffering, blame, and forgiveness” remarks Adame.  Franco reveals, “Both the Merolico and Gaudencio, undergo deep personal changes as the play moves on.”

 

According to the playwright audience members will be able to join the cast as “spect-actors” in this interactive play.

 

All theatre fans and aspiring spect-actors are cordially invited to attend this free performance in Spanish and meet El Merolico.
