Dynamic Scheduling’ Gives TAMIU Students More Flexibility for Spring 2014 Courses

(Laredo, Tx)-This Spring semester 2014 at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), students will be able to tap into a new scheduling system providing greater flexibility and the ability to  compress and shorten some undergraduate and graduate courses .

TAMIU registrar Juan G. García said the new scheduling system, dubbed “Dynamic Scheduling,” expands on an earlier initiative with the University’s Criminal Justice program.

“In that instance, we compressed the traditional graduate course semester from a 15-week period to a 12, seven or five-week period.  Student response was positive and we’re now expanding the effort to a broad range of undergraduate and graduate program courses,” García said.

“Dynamic scheduling means that courses are offered in mini-mesters of 5 weeks, sub-terms of 7 weeks and flex-terms of 12 weeks with different entry points and times.  The availability of these options, individually and combined, provides students with greater flexibility in how they schedule their courses, plan degree program progress and arrange their load.  With dynamic scheduling, students can accelerate some degree paths and combine course loads at times that are more convenient to them. It can also provide them with greater personal budgetary and time management options,” Garcia noted.

Suzanne Alford, TAMIU director of graduate recruiting, said the dynamic scheduling should be of special interest for the University’s growing number of graduate students.

“We think this is going to be of tremendous interest for both current and potential graduate students.  One of the critical factors for most TAMIU graduate students is being able to keep career and family lives intact while they pursue their graduate education.  It’s often a challenge to keep those things whole while taking a semester’s course load.  Dynamic scheduling really compresses those time concerns to more manageable blocks of time and can actually accelerate completion time for some programs,” Alford indicated.

The Spring 2014 Schedule, with dynamic scheduling options for undergraduate and graduate students, is now active on Uonline or by visiting http://www.tamiu.edu/affairs/registrar/schedule/index-real.shtml.

Classes begin Wednesday, January 22, 2014.

TAMIU information is available online at tamiu.edu and on its social media sites on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
