PHOTO RECAP: Cm. Garza Hosts Avenida Los Presidentes Groundbreaking Ceremony

(Laredo, Tx)-District I Council Member Mike Garza and the City of Laredo proudly announced plans to enhance traffic mobility in the southern sector of Laredo with the groundbreaking of the Avenida Los Presidentes Extension project, extending the roadway to Cuatro Vientos. This will provide an alternative north/south route for both the local and regional community in South Laredo and will further provide smoother traffic flow in the area. An added benefit of the project will be the potential for further commercial and residential development along the roadway.
The project will consist of a 66 foot-wide, two-lane roadway, 242.25 linear feet, with pavement, earthwork, drainage, curb and gutter, inlets and flums for storm drainage, and traffic signs. The total cost for this project will be $170,662.65 and is funded through federal, funding, including Cross Border Infrastructure-CBI); state funding through the Texas Department of Transportation; and a local match, as well.
The Avenida Los Presidentes Road extension was made possible by the land donation of .5635 acres by Raymundo O. Salinas and Ismael Salinas of Hill Top Farm, Ltd.
This is the last of the three road extensions (Lomas Del Sur and Cielito Liendo) planned for South Laredo, in conjunction with TXDOT and the City of Laredo. The entire project cost for all three roads, including environmental assessment, plans and specifications and construction is $6,069,656, of which the City contributed $376,316. Thanks to land acquisition by the City of Laredo through donation, these three extensions are possible.
Plans and specifications were prepared by the Texas Department of Transportation and will be constructed by Reim Construction, Inc., of Mission, Texas.
“The most important benefit that I am so excited to see is the relief it will give to the people who live and have to struggle with the congestion in South Laredo. The Avenida Los Presidentes extension will relieve the traffic and congestion that thousands of people deal with on a daily basis. The promises we made to them are going to come to fruition,” Cm. Garza said happily.
