City of Laredo to Host International Logistics, Trade Conference

Logistic Cities World Forum to Bring in People from throughout the Globe

(Laredo, Tx)-In an effort to highlight Laredo’s position as not only the nation’s number one inland port, a global leader in trade, and recently named center of excellence for machinery, the City of Laredo partnered with Laredo Logistics International to coordinate and host a logistics conference with international appeal. 

 The Logistic Cities World Forum will be held on the campus of Texas A&M International University May 28-31, 2013 and will feature global leaders of major business, manufacturing and logistics corporations, as well as high-level government officials from around the world, sharing their expertise and knowledge of how to capitalize on growing trade opportunities in this ever shrinking global market. 

 “Laredo is the perfect location for a conference of this magnitude, given our bilingual, bi-cultural approach to business and trade opportunities,” said City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas. 

 Conference speakers will be coming from 11 different countries, including England, Peru, Singapore, Spain, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Japan, and of course, Mexico and the United States.  Additionally, throughout the conference, the City of Laredo will be signing various Letters of Agreement for future trade with the City of Puerto Cortes, Honduras; City of Lebu and City of Victoria, Chile; City of Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, Ecuador.

 High level government and logistics trade leaders from throughout the world will be present throughout the conference, including governors from Chile, China, Ecuador and Mexico, and also from Mexico state secretaries of economic development from Tamaulipas, Colima, San Luis Potosí and Michoacán.

 During the opening ceremony, high level Mexican dignitaries will be present for the event, including Lic. Alfonso Rojas, president of the Confederación de Asociaciones de Agentes Aduanales; Ing. Rodolfo Hernández Casanova, director of Modernization of Commerce and Services who is representing the Secretary of Economic Development for México; as well as Rafael Gutiérrez,  the president of the Association of Mexican Secretaries of Economic Development.

 “Laredo’s position as one of the leading international ports is fundamental to able to offer a competitive advantage to many companies who will use this great important trade route making it much more necessary to internationalize this great border location to be truly recognized as an excellent business port along this truly important trade corridor,” said Hector Vargas, general director, Laredo Logistics International. “This conference will help to solidify Laredo’s expertise in all areas of logistics and trade that will make this port even more attractive for businesses worldwide.

 “The forum will appeal to many local, national and international businesses found here in Laredo, as it will be an opportunity for them to hear from major business leaders in various fields,” said City Manager Carlos Villarreal.
