Mud Race Check Presentation and Mud Race Winners Recognized

Courtesy Xochitl Mora,

(Laredo, Tx)- Last Week District VI Council Member Charlie San Miguel hosted a check presentation and winner recognition ceremony from last month’s No Mud! No Glory! One Tough Mud’r! 5K Race.  The event was a fundraiser for the Laredo Veterans Coalition and Laredo Stepping Stone.

The ceremony got off to an emotional start as Cm. San Miguel, along with City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas, recognized and honored Border Patrol Agent Jeffrey Ramirez’s family.  Agent Ramirez passed away after falling ill in August.  A team of Border Patrol agents, team name Jeffrey’s Dawgs, participated in the race as a way to honor their fallen comrade.  Cm. San Miguel decided to name the Team Trophy after Agent Jeffrey Ramirez.

The trophy distribution continued with perhaps one of the youngest competitors and winners:  David Webb, who was the Top Male 18 and Under winner.

The Top Female winner, Erin Lawler, was also on hand to receive her trophy.

Another young gun was Dannia Gonzalez, the Top Female 18 and Under Winner.   The race, which boasted over 900 competitors, raised $24,000.  After some pending operational expenses were covered, the remaining $20,000 was split evenly into two very important organizations in Laredo that positively impact the community.  The Laredo Veterans Coalition  and Jeannie and Randy Leyendecker of Laredo Stepping Stone were on hand for their big check presentation.  Both were very humbled and moved to be recipients of these funds because they know this money goes far to help those that they serve.

In an emotional turn, Jeffrey’s Dawgs Team Members decided to present the trophy back to the Ramirez Family, as another way for them to remember and honor their son.
