LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry on Tuesday seized alleged methamphetamine valued at $425,000.  The seizure occurred on April 17, 2012 during a routine examination at Lincoln-Juarez Bridge . A CBP officer referred a 2001 Chevy Tahoe driven by a 28-year-old U.S. citizen from Houston for a secondary examination. CBP officers conducted an intensive examination and discovered 14 packages containing 28.35 pounds of alleged methamphetamine hidden within the vehicle. The methamphetamine has an estimated street value of $425,000.

CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.

“This is a significant amount of methamphetamine and it underscores the reality of the drug threat our frontline officers faces on a daily basis,” said Sidney Aki, CBP Port Director, Laredo . “Seizing loads of hard narcotics like this is yet another example of CBP’s tireless pursuit of our border security mission.”
