CBP Officers at Laredo Port of Entry Seize $1.8 Million in Cocaine

LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry this weekend seized alleged cocaine valued at $1.8 million from a vehicle driven by a man from the Monterrey , Mexico area. The cocaine seizure occurred on Oct. 22, 2011 during a routine examination at Lincoln-Juarez Bridge . A CBP officer referred a 2011 Nissan Sentra driven by a 50-year-old male Mexican citizen from Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico for a secondary examination. After conducting an intensive inspection, CBP officers discovered 24 bundles containing a total of 58 pounds of alleged cocaine in the floor area of the vehicle. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $1.8 million.
CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
“This is a significant interception of hard narcotics and it illustrates not only the drug threat our frontline officers face on a daily basis but their zeal in keeping our border safe and secure,” said Sidney Aki, CBP Port Director, Laredo.
