LISD Hosts S.M.A.R.T. Conference

The Laredo Independent School District will be hosting a SMART (Successful Meaningful and Relevant Teaching) Conference on Monday August 15, 2011 for all elementary teachers and staff and Tuesday, August 16, 2011 for all secondary teachers and staff at Martin High School from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration will be from 7:15 am to 8:15am. in the school cafeteria.

 The conference will feature sessions such as: ABC’s of Teaching Reading, Raising the Bar: Integrating Level 2 and 3 Questions during Reading Instruction, Making your Classroom Interactive! and Interpreting Data to Plan for Instruction. Elementary staff will have a choice of 163 sessions to choose from while secondary staff will have a choice of 138 sessions to choose from.  Presenters will include Instructional Deans, Instructional Specialists, and Behavior Specialists from LISD as well a few outside professionals.

“The goal of this conference is to provide our teachers and staff with the training and resources needed to facilitate the transition to STAAR by providing engaging learning activities with increased rigor and relevance” said Diana Juarez, Director of Staff Development.

SMART Conference information is posted on the LISD web-site at www.laredoisd.org which includes registration procedures, descriptions, schedules, and confirmation sheets.  LISD students return to classes on Monday, August 22.
