TxDOT HOSTS STATEWIDE PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT MEETINGS

On Thursday, September 1, 2011, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will host a public meeting in each of its 25 districts throughout the state to provide information and solicit input from the public regarding the planning and funding of a variety of transportation projects. The discussions will center on recommended revisions to the 2012 Unified Transportation Program (UTP) and the 2011-2014 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). Laredo Police ATF Task Force Officers and ATF Arrest a Felon for Possession of a Firearm.

(Laredo, Texas)- Laredo ATF agents and Laredo Police Officers working as ATF Task Force Officers arrested Ruben “Coco” Ibarra in Laredo, Texas on a bench warrant on a Federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.  The charge is alleged to have occurred on February 28, 2011, at a bar located at the 4600 block of San Bernardo according to the indictment rendered by a Brownsville grand jury just three days before.  If convicted of possessing the Glock 9mm pistol, Ibarra faces up to 10 years …

CBP Officers Seize Counterfeit DVD Players Valued at $881,000

 LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers from Laredo Port of Entry recently seized a shipment of DVD players valued at $881,000 that infringed on two trademarks recorded with CBP. CBP officers assigned to the World Trade Bridge Export Lot targeted a shipment containing DVD players bound for export for an enforcement examination. During the examination, CBP officers discovered that the DVD players contained the DVD and Dolby Digital brand names, which are trademark recorded with CBP.

ERCOT Urges Electric Conservation as Heat Wave Lingers

AUSTIN, Texas The manager of the state’s electric grid has issued another plea for saving energy as the Texas heat wave lingers.  The Electric Reliability Council of Texas says a vital need for conservation exists through Tuesday. Consumers are urged to shut off unnecessary lights and electrical appliances from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.  ERCOT this month has issued several conservation pleas for its region, which includes Houston, Dallas,Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi , Abilene and the Rio Grande Valley.  ERCOT handles about 85 …

Texas motorists may notice some changes to speed limit signs in the next several months, as new laws regulating speed limits on the roadways of the state highway system begin to take effect.
The 82nd Texas Legislature passed and the Governor signed House Bill 1353, which takes effect on September 1.  This legislation allows the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to create a 75-mile per hour speed limit on any state highway found to be reasonable and safe through a speed study.  TxDOT will be reviewing existing 70-mile per hour …
