Laredo Set to Face Central Florida in Jackson, MS

Heat, Kraze Open Southern Conference Championship Tournament on Friday

Jackson, MS – The two teams that open the Premier Development League’s (PDL) Southern Conference Championship in Jackson, MS, the Laredo Heat Soccer Club (11 – 3 – 2, 35 points) and the Central Florida (Orlando) Kraze (11 – 3 – 2, 35 points), are very familiar with each other when it comes to meeting in the playoffs.

Laredo and Central Florida have played versus each other over the years, both in Orlando and the Gateway City plus both teams have PDL Championship titles to their name with the Kraze winning it all in 2004 and the Heat in 2007.

Kick-off on Friday, July 29th is set for 5:00 PM at Harper Davis Field on the campus of Millsaps College.

 Later during day, the host Mississippi Brilla (12 – 2 – 2, 38 points) will face the Chivas El Paso Patriots (10 – 3 – 3, 33 points).

The PDL’s Conference Championships, four of them around the country over the weekend, are set as a single elimination tournament with the winners of the opening matches meeting either on Saturday or Sunday for the conference title and losers will see their season come to an end. The Southern Conference Championship match is set for Saturday, July 30th at 7:30 PM.

The conference champions will then look forward to the PDL’s Final Four Championship the following weekend (location TBD).

Laredo is coming to Jackson, MS this weekend with three consecutive Mid-South Division Championships (2009, 2010 and 2011); however, they are definitely hoping that the third time is truly the charm since in 2009 and 2010, opening playoff losses to Bradenton in 2009 and Baton Rouge in 2010 have sent the Heat home early after very successful regular seasons.
