Sheriff Cuellar Reports Half a Million Dollar Methamphetamine Drug Seizure

Courtesy Maru De La Paz,

Laredo Texas (Webb County) – On Wednesday, May 25, 2011 Webb County Sheriff Deputies seized 4.86 kilos of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of approximately $500,000.00.  Deputies working at a truck stop located at the 13 mile marker boarded a bus and made contact with a female individual. While speaking with the female it was clear that she was not being truthful about her travel agenda.  Upon further investigation deputies noticed several fruit cans in a hand bag that she was carrying.  Upon closer inspection the alert deputies saw some discrepancies with the packaging of the cans.  When the cans were opened the deputy noticed a foil wrapped package containing a white powdery substance, which later tested positive for Methamphetamine.  Deputies arrested a 16 year old female with an address in Laredo, Texas. She was transported to the Webb County Youth Village and charged with a first degree felony Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Sheriff Martin Cuellar commends his Deputies for their great work in keeping these drugs from reaching the streets and our children. He also states that this is a sad reminder of the recent trend of drug traffickers contracting juveniles to move their contraband for their benefit. He urges our youth not to fall into this illegal and deadly trend that the drug traffickers are using.
