Salinas to Testify in Austin in Support of Legislation to Help Laredo

City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas will testify today in Austin in front of the House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety in support of House Bill 48, authored by Aaron Peña.
House Bill 48 relates “to authorizing the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas to investigate the feasibility of and cooperate in the establishment of southbound checkpoints along the international border of this state.”
“This is an important bill because if we can stop the guns, money, or stolen vehicles here in Laredo before they make it into Mexico, that will be an important victory in the war on the Mexican drug cartels,” said Salinas.
Additionally, Salinas will also spend the next day in Austin, meeting with various officials regarding homeland security, including: Representative Aaron Peña; Representative Debbie Riddle, who sits on the Border & Intergovernmental Affairs Committee; Teresa Spears, Appointments Director for the Office of the Governor; and Steve McCraw, Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
