LPD Seizes Weapons and Ammo

Courtesy Joe Baeza,

On Monday March 28th at approximately 12:30 am a Laredo police officer conducted a traffic stop on a blue in color van with an attached U-haul trailer near the 5900 block of IH -35.  As the officer conducted his traffic stop questioning he noticed inconstancies in and behavior and the stories involving the travel and final destination between the driver and the passenger.

The driver was identified as Cesario Gallegos, and the passenger Ernesto Guerrero.  The driver voluntarily consented to a search of the van and the trailer to the police officer.  Upon further inspection of the vehicle and the trailer led to the discovery of a large cache of several rounds of ammunition and some firearms.  The firearms & ammo were found in compartments of the van and also under large piles of luggage and bags in the trailer.  Included in the weapons seized included a rifle w/collapsible stock, two handguns, numerous boxes and bags filled with ammunition.

Found amongst the collection of ammunition was armor piercing bullets.  Both men were questioned at headquarters and then charged with Possession of Prohibited Weapons.  The vehicle was in route to Mexico.

There are only 5.7 x 28 mm fn ammo there. They may be hollow points they may be ss190 projectiles. Both are NOT AP ammo. Even the ss190 has only a SOFT blunt steel tip – very small. Not considered AP. True Armor piercing bullets have large sharply pointed hardened steel or tungsten carbice cores. Such bullets punch penetrate kevlar because of there speed and shape not hardnes of the core. like true AP bullets.
No one makes true ap bullets in 5.7×28 caliber
    Please correct that
    Regards.

The thing about armor piercing bullets is not corect. There are no armor piercing ammo pictured on the photo !!!
Only standard full metal jacket bullets. These will easylly punch through an bulletproof vest worn by policemen but they are NOT armor piercing. Any rifle round will punch throught a police vest and kill a cop. Cops have to just accept that. You by publicing such lies about armor piercing bullets availible to criminals just make anti gun people crazy. There was not a situation where ap bullets were use in a crime in the U.S. EVER.
