The Laredo PD Auto Theft division made 4 arrests of a crew of car burglars breaking into vehicles and taking valuables.  These particular burglaries involved two cars at Doctor’s Hospital and a car at Mall del Norte stolen from on different occasions. One burglary at the mall happened on October 06, 2010 when a person who went shopping got into her car to get all the way home only to notice that someone had broken into her car and had stolen her son’s saxophone.  The saxophone was sold to a local pawnshop located on San Bernardo Street.  A tip led police to the pawnshop and the name of the person who sold it there.  Celina Isabel Rodriguez, age 20, went to the pawnshop to sell it.

Celina Isabel RodriguezShe was brought in for questioning and admitted voluntarily that she was given the saxophone to pawn by two other men, known to her, who were driving a red in color Pontiac.

Manuel Antonio ArrellanoThat same suspect Pontiac was seen on surveillance video at a hospital parking lot when two separate burglaries happened.  Police were able to locate and connect the cases, thus solving the string of burglaries.  Each suspect had a range of theft charges and engaging in organized criminal activity charge.  They each had a $90,000 bond.  In one case, Arrellano, had an extensive criminal history and was arrested on at least 20 other charges since 2003.  Most of the charges stemmed from thefts, drugs and stealing cars.

Michael Andrew MartinezThe Laredo Police urge the community to avoid leaving valuables in their cars, especially high value items such as; purses, wallets, checkbooks, laptops, ipods, and even currency.  Personal documents such as birth certificates, passports, social security cards are things that should never be kept in vehicles ever. With the increase in identity theft the effect of losing your personal identification could haunt you for life.
