St. Peter’s Memorial School’s Annual Jamaica and Bingo help raise funds for historic school!

October 22, 2010—St. Peter’s Memorial School’s Fall Jamaica and Bingo is a fun, family celebration that captures all the joy and spirit of the harvest season, while helping to raise funds for the religious institute.  This year’s event, held on the historic grounds of St. Peter’s Memorial School, located at 1519 Houston Street, will be on Saturday, October 23, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

“St. Peter’s Memorial School is dedicated to establishing Catholic values while providing a rigorous and challenging curriculum for our students,” said Dr. Linda Marie Garcia Mitchell, principal of the school.  “Of course, as a private institute, holding fundraising activities allows us to offer one of the lowest tuition rates in the city, while still maintaining a high-standard of academics.  For that reason, the Annual Jamaica and Bingo is one of the most important fundraisers the school hosts,” she added.

Admission to the Jamaica is just $1.00 per person; children 2 and under get in free.  The festival will feature food booths, games, activities and entertainment. Alumni are especially invited to come to the festival and come meet the new slate of teachers and students who are continuing in the proud St. Peter’s tradition.  “There have been so many students who have come through this school, and we want them to be a part of our celebration,” concluded Mitchell.

Once inside, check out the on-going Bingo game, which will offer prizes ranging from televisions, DVD players, Nintendo game systems, camcorders, home and kitchen appliances, digital cameras, and I-Pods, just to name a few.  Pre-sale tickets for the Bingo game are $15 and can be purchased directly from the school or any school parent.

Attendees to the event will also get to enjoy music, entertainment by various dance troupes, and games and activities for the kids.

For more information about the festival, call the school at 723-6302.  All proceeds from the Jamaica and Bingo go directly to operational expenses for St. Peter’s Memorial School.

St. Peter’s Memorial School is one of the oldest Catholic schools in Laredo.  First established in 1925, the school was run under the auspices of the Ursuline Sisters until 1968, and then the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco.  Now part of the Catholic Diocese of Laredo, the school offers classes from level K3 through 8th grade and typically serves approximately 150 students each year.
