Earlier today, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas welcomed various visitors to City Hall.

Humor helps people to get through the hard times and that is exactly what the One City, One Book will be a free offering with their next event, the movie screening of “The Three Amigos,” a hilarious, backwards version of “The Magnificent Seven,” the movie on which this year’s book selection, “Into the Beautiful North,” by Luis Alberto Urrea, is based. Laredo Public Library’s Gateway City Book Lovers Book Club has selected a powerful read for its next book: The Road of Lost Innocence. The book is the true story of a Cambodian heroine, Somaly Mam, who, as a young girl, was sold into sexual slavery but now she rescues others. The second One City, One Book group discussion of the book, “Into the Beautiful North,” by Luis Alberto Urrea will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Laredo Public Library HEB Multi-Purpose Room, 1120 E. Weather permitting, ongoing construction on the Unitec Industrial Street Project will close the intersection of North Unitec at the northwest cul-de sac, beginning on Thursday, September 9, 2010. The intersection will remain closed for approximately three weeks. Thru traffic will have access via North Unitec to the closure site and the sole business east of the closure will have access via Cabezut.
