LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry recently seized a shipment of home theater systems valued at $119,752 for allegedly infringing on several recorded trademarks.  A CBP import specialist with the Import Specialist Enforcement Team (ISET) at Colombia-Solidarity Bridge recently selected a shipment of home theater systems for secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers and import specialists observed the shipment of home theater systems contained DVD, Dolby Digital and UL designs which are recorded trademarks. CBP first detained the shipment for verification purposes and it was subsequently determined that the shipment infringed on the three registered trademarks. A total of 665 home theater system units with a domestic value of $81,747 and a MSRP of $119,752 were seized this week.

“CBP import specialists play a critical role in ensuring that merchandise entering the country is in compliance with all applicable importation requirements and federal law,” said Gene Garza, CBP Port Director, Laredo .  “The interception of a large shipment of home theater systems for infringing on three recorded trademarks is a significant achievement and underscores CBP’s commitment to enforcing intellectual and property rights (IPR) laws.”
