The Brain that Wouldn’t Die

The Brain that wouldn’t die stars Virginia Leith as Jan Compton who dies in a car accident but her head is brought back to life  by her fiancee scientist Bill Cortner.  The movie as made int he late 1950′s but not released until 1962.  The movie was directed by Joseph Green and has remained a cult favorite amongst horror enthusiasts.

          The Webb County family will proudly be welcoming home Mike Cabello of the Webb County Engineering Department after 16 months of deployment in Afghanistan.  On Monday, August 30, the Webb County Commissioners Court will host a “Welcome Coffee” in his honor starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Webb County Courthouse, 2nd floor.
          Mike Cabello represents the best of what the Navy has to offer.  While serving as a U.S. Naval Reserve Seabee, he was selected as an Unsung Hero and received the Joint Service Achievement Medal.

One City, One Book Kick-Off Event:

The kick-off event for this year’s One City, One Book will be a free movie screening of the classic film starring Yule Brynner and Steve McQueen, “The Magnificent Seven,” the movie on which this year’s book selection, “Into the Beautiful North,” by Luis Alberto Urrea, is based.  Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy popcorn and a wonderful movie.  Just bring 5 cans of non-perishable food per person to attend.

Lesson will look at the effects of the Holocaust on its most innocent victims

Juan Caballero Candidate for Municipal Court Judge Opens Campaign Headquarters

(Laredo, Tx) – Juan Caballero Candidate for Municipal Court Judge celebrated the Grand Opening of his Campaign Headquarters accompanied by over 200 supporters.  The event included music and plenty of food that consisted of Sirloin Steak, Rice and Beans served with ice cold refreshments.  A giant campaign sign which is clearly visible from IH 35 traveling south was unveiled earlier before the event.  Juan Caballero is seeking the position of Municipal Court Judge that will be decided in November he faces four other opponents.  Juan Caballero is the most experienced of the five …

Dixon homers in the eighth, gives the Broncos 5-4 win, Broncos pull even with White Wings for third place

August 26th, HARLINGEN, TX)-The Broncos (45-43) took their first lead of the game in the top of the eighth on a D.J Dixon solo home run and the Broncos bullpen made it stand up to secure the 5-4 victory and pull even with the white Wings (45-43) for third place in the United League.
