CBP Officers at Laredo Port of Entry Seize Home Theater Systems Worth $119,752 for Allegedly Infringing on Recorded Trademarks

 LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry recently seized a shipment of home theater systems valued at $119,752 for allegedly infringing on several recorded trademarks.  A CBP import specialist with the Import Specialist Enforcement Team (ISET) at Colombia-Solidarity Bridge recently selected a shipment of home theater systems for secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers and import specialists observed the shipment of home theater systems contained DVD, Dolby Digital and UL designs which are recorded trademarks. Congressman Cuellar announces more than $1.7 million for three college programs
 
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Henry Cuellar, TX-28, announced that Laredo Community College has received a total of $1,782,888 in federal funds to help support three programs at the institution that will specifically benefit students and the business and industry sectors.
 
The three programs are the TRiO Student Support Services Program, SABOR Culinary Arts Program: Better Nutrition Education and Jobs, and Business and Industry Workplace Literacy Center.

Laredo Industrial Streets Closure Notice

 Weather permitting, on-going construction on several of Laredo’s industrial street projects will include several closures, starting August 23, 2010. 
The City of Laredo contractor will coordinate with area businesses to maintain access. The traveling public should slow down, drive with extreme caution, and observe all safety signs, traffic control devices and flaggers in the work zone area.

Jeanette Cantu Appears in Court Bond Remains at $300,000

The Office of the District Attorney reports that defendant Jeanette Cantu appeared in the 49th District Court for a capias hearing.  The Honorable Judge Joe Lopez appointed local attorney Jose Arce to serve as Cantu’s defense attorney.  Immediately upon his appointment, Arce requested a bond reduction for Cantu, which was denied.  Her bond remains at $300,000 for the charges of Murder, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Tampering with Physical Evidence. 
A consultation hearing was set for September 17th in the 49th District Court.

Lopez hopes appointment will help promote January 2012 conference in Laredo
 Laredo, August 17, 2010– Blasita J. Lopez, Laredo Convention & Visitors’ Bureau Director, has been named to the Board of Directors for the Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus (TACVB).  The appointment was made this past week in Lubbock at the TACVB annual conference during their business meeting on Thursday, August 12.  The meeting consisted of approximately 150 voting members and the new appointments to the board were approved unanimously.

Man Indicted in Stabbing Death of Stepdaughter

 The Office of District Attorney Isidro R. Alaniz reports that Efrain Colindres was indicted late Tuesday, August 17th by a grand jury in the 341st District Court in the murder of his stepdaughter, Ana Isabel Chavez. 
 Colindres is formally accused of having stabbed his stepdaughter six times with a kitchen knife on May 28, 2010. 
 First responders to the defendant’s home located on the six-hundred block of West San Francisco Street found the fourteen year old girl unresponsive and declared her dead at the scene.

 The Laredo Independent School District Tax Office is currently accepting applications for a place on the 2010 LISD Board of Trustees general election ballot. The deadline to file an application for a place on the ballot is Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.
 Residents of the district may file in person at the LISD Tax Office during regular business hours from 8:00 a.m., to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents can also mail their applications to the Tax Office at 904 Juarez Laredo, TX. 78040.

(August 20th)- EDINBURG, TX -The Broncos banged out 17 runs on 19 hits, being paced by Jose Canseco who turned his best night at the plate as a Bronco. Canseco went 4 for 5 with four RBI and a home run, his third as a Bronco.  RHP Matt Gibbs (7-3) made his eighth start of the year for the Broncos and second against Edinburg who sent Jose Pablo Oyervidez (2-1) to the mound.
