RHP Jeff Jamnik pitches the Broncos to victory in game one of the series vs the Thunder

(July 30th, LAREDO, TX)- The Broncos (28-34) took game one of the series against the Thunder (22-38) courtesy of the right armof Jeff Jamnik, who allowed only two runs over 7.2 innings pitched.  The Broncos welcomed in the Coastal Bend Thunder for a four game series at Veterans Field that featured RHP Jeff Jamnik (3-2) for the Broncos vs. LHP Doug Brandt (2-6).  The Broncos took a 1-0 lead when Jolen Pacheco, signed by the Broncos today hit a double play ball that scored Jason Diaz from third base.    Jamnik held the Thunder scoreless through five full innings, allowing only one hit and he walked a batter.

 The Broncos added a run to their lead in the bottom of the fifth when Ryan Flynn started the inning off with a walk.  With one out and runners at second and third Jolen Pacheco singled to bring home Flynn and make the score 2-0 Broncos.

 In the top of the sixth the Thunder tied the game at 2-2 on three doubles by Ron Fenwick, Brian Nichols, and Alex Fernandez.

 The Broncos wasted no time in taking the lead back, in the bottom of the sixth Thennis doubled and Arroyo singled.  Ryan Flynn dropped down an RBI sacrifice squeeze bunt to give the Broncos a 3-2 lead.  Carlos Arroyo then scored on a wild pitch and the lead was 4-2 Broncos.   Nick Mahin hit home run number seven on the year in the bottom of the seventh, a crush job over the left field wall to give the Broncos a 5-2 lead.  Jamnik turned in another gem for the Broncos, pitching 7.2 innings, allowing six hits, two runs (both earned), he walked one and struck out nine, while picking up his third win of the season.

 In the ninth, RHP Reyes Dorado, just signed by the Broncos yesterday, came on and gave up a run on the RBI fielder’s choice by Kevin Butler to make the score 5-3. 

 Dorado shut the door on the Thunder, retiring Ron Fenwick to end the ball game.
