Hundreds of miniature U.S. flags are waving in the breeze at both local cemeteries. The flags were placed on veteran’s gravesites for Memorial Day by LISD Army JROTC cadets. The students assisted local veterans from the American Legion Post 59 place U.S. flags on the gravesites of veterans at the City Cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day ceremonies. Early Sunday morning, the cadets from Martin, Nixon, and Cigarroa High School placed more than 1,000 U.S. flags on the gravesites of local veterans.

The traffic signal at the intersection of Shiloh and Loop 20 has been placed on yellow and red flash since Friday, May 28, 2010. The traffic light will be fully activated on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution and observe all traffic signs around the area. For more information, please call the Traffic Safety Department office at 795-2550.

ROBSTOWN, TX – RHP Leo Figuero made his first start of the season for the Broncos in game one of a four game set with the Coastal Bend Thunder. Thunder leadoff man Dustin Smith reached on a Ryan Flynn error to start the game off and it was an omen of sorts to come for the Broncos in this one. All City of Laredo administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 31, 2010 in observance of Memorial Day. Protective and emergency services will be operational. No garbage pick-up will be available that day, but the City Landfill will be open on Monday, May 31, 2010. Trash pick-up schedule will resume the next day on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 on regularly scheduled routes.

Bills to Fund DOD and Tax Cuts Pass the House before Memorial Day
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) voted to extend over $4 billion worth of vitally important tax cuts to hard-working families and supported legislation to fund the Department of Defense though 2011, including funding to create a new South Texas Joint Training Center in Tilden, Texas, for the Texas Air and Army National Guard. Late this afternoon a Laredo Police officer stopped a white Ford F-250 at the intersection of Mines Rd. and San Lorenzo for a routine traffic violation. The truck with Tamaulipas plates was being driven by two Hispanic men. The officer noted that the men were acting nervous during the routine traffic stop. The officer asked for consent to search the vehicle and the two men appeared more nervous with their responses to the officer. On Thursday May 27, 2010 members of the Laredo Police Department’s Narcotics/Vice Unit, along with the Patrol Division worked a special detail on the west side of Laredo, primarily on San Bernardo Ave. The objective was to locate, identify and arrest anyone soliciting prostitution. Ten men were arrested for soliciting sex for money from an undercover law enforcement officer. All ten men were charged with Prostitution, a Class B Misdemeanor. All ten men were booked at the Laredo Police Department and later remanded to the Webb County Jail.

On May 26, 2010, Laredo Police Narcotics/Vice Unit assisted by Laredo Police Patrol Division conducted consent to search by an apartment located at the 400 block of Gale. 25 small bundles of Marijuana were recovered with a combined weight of 30 pounds. Manrique Santiago Jr. and Alberto Carmona were arrested for Possession of Marijuana F/3. Subjects were booked at the Laredo Police Department.
