The Laredo City Council along with local F.B.I. Agent in Charge Michael Wise, recognized the Laredo Police Department’s Bomb Squad. The squad was recently awarded with Federal certification as a Bomb Squad (renewed certification). They are officially listed as a federal resource for response in any national emergency by the U.S. Government. The bomb squad and LPD Administration were recognized by the local F.B.I. The Laredo Independent School District’s Office of Communications and the Instructional Television (ITV) Departments received several 2009 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Best in Category, Gold, and Silver Star Awards for excellence in school communications. The awards were announced at the TSPRA Star Awards Celebration last week during the association’s annual conference in Austin, Texas.
Each year, TSPRA recognizes communicators in school districts, education foundations, education associations and organizations for their outstanding contributions in school communications. This year, over1000 entries were received in the annual contest.

The City of Laredo celebrated the completion of the Gateway to the Americas Bridge Pedestrian Walkway Canopy (USA) project with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. The canopies are constructed over the northbound and southbound pedestrian walkways extending from the midpoint of the bridge to the northern boundary of the City-owned bridge. The galvanized aluminum canopies are designed to shield pedestrians from the various weather elements. Approximately 1,000 linear feet of lighting and a misting system are included. The total cost of the project is $906,000.
