Laredo, TX: The Easter Season is upon us and the Laredo Fire Department would like to offer some suggestions that will help you stay safe this Easter Weekend:
v Be sure that Easter toys and Dolls (such as bunnies, chicks, etc.) are free of choking hazards. Pieces that can be removed from a doll or toy pose a potential choking danger to small children.
v In order to prevent choking do not give small candies or chocolates to children less than 5 years of age.

Holiday closure forces change in regular schedule
Today, Tuesday, March 30, 2010, the City of Laredo Solid Waste Services Division will be picking up the recycling blue bags, normally scheduled for pick-up this Friday.
“Because of the Easter holiday, we’ll go by and pick-up the recycling early,” said Willie Bote, everyone’s favorite environmentally friendly trashcan mascot. “This way, everyone can start their recycling collecting anew again,” he concluded.

A Plus Plumbing Contractor, Inc., a private contractor, will be closing the 100 block of Alicate, between the Castro Urdiales Avenue and Burgos Avenue to install a water tap in the area. The closure will be on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, starting at 7:00 a.m. and concluding by 5:00 p.m. that afternoon.

Weather permitting, Bay Limited Construction Company will begin road reconstruction of the US Highway 59 (Lloyd Bentsen Hwy)-State Highway 16 (South Norton Ave.) intersection in Freer with project limits from State Highway 16 to one-half (0.510) mile east of State Highway 16.
US 59 east- and westbound traffic approaching the intersection will merge to one lane in each direction, and one-way traffic control will be in effect for SH 16 north- and southbound traffic approaching the intersection. On Thursday evening members of the Laredo Police Department’s Narcotics/Vice Unit, along with the Patrol Division and POPS conducted a special detail on the west side of Laredo, specifically along the San Bernardo Avenue area. The objective was to locate, identify and arrest anyone soliciting prostitution. A total of twelve males were arrested for soliciting sex for money from an undercover law enforcement officer. An investigation by both the Laredo Police Department’s Crimes Against Property Division and the Webb/Zapata County District Attorney’s Office resulted in the execution of a search warrant for an establishment found to be operating an illegal gambling place with the use of electronic video game machines commonly called Eight-Liners. The investigation determined that this business was paying out cash prizes to patrons who won playing the eight-liner machines; a search warrant was obtained for the establishment on March 25, 2010.

Laredo, Texas – On Friday, March 26, 2010, Webb County Sheriff’s Office gather for a picture as they prepare to divide items between boxes. The Webb County Sheriff’s Office conducted a care package drive, the drive started on March 8th, 2010 culminating on Thursday, March 26, 2010 with the live radio remote in order to attract the community to come out and drop off items.
