The “Teens in the Driver Seat Organization” of the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts together with Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar will be hosting the National Arrive Alive Tour 2010 in Laredo.  The DWI simulator event will be visiting the VMT Magnet School on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at Historic St. Peter’s Plaza.

“This is the first Teens in the Driver Seat D.W.I. Awareness Campaign for the Laredo community,” said Dr. Martha Villarreal, VMT Magnet School Director.  “This is also the first time ever that D.W.I. simulators will be brought to our community to show our students what it feels like to drive under the influence.”

UNITE, the number one Health and Wellness Organization in the nation, is the sponsor of the awareness campaign. They visit campuses on all levels – from elementary schools to colleges and universities. UNITE’s campaign is designed to heighten awareness of the dangers and consequences of drunk driving. This is the number one ranked drunk driving prevention program in America which utilizes their high tech simulator, impact video, and a number of other resources to educate the students about the dangers of alcohol, drunk driving, and drugs.

Teens in the Driver Seat and Sheriff Cuellar’s main goal is our children’s safety and making them aware of the consequence of not just drinking and driving, but also of not buckling up, driving at night, texting and driving, and distractions while driving. Sheriff Cuellar says, “I will continue to strive to be at the forefront of high impact health and wellness programs. Our students’ safety is my number one priority.”
