Pedestrian Accident Claims the Life of a 74 Year Old Man

 On Thursday, February 18, 2010 Laredo Police Dispatch received an emergency call at 10:13 pm concerning an Automobile with a Pedestrian traffic accident.  The location was at the intersection of Springfield and Elm Street.  The pedestrian identified as Adan Gamez, 74, was struck by a 1994 Mazda Protégé being driven by 54 year old Raymundo Garcia.  Mr. Gamez was apparently crossing Springfield at the intersection with Elm Street from West to East.  The vehicle was traveling southbound at the 3300 block of Springfield then struck Mr. Gamez.  Mr. Gamez was transported by ambulance to Laredo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by the E.R. Physician at 10:45 p.m.   The LPD C.R.A.S.H. Team was called out to investigate the accident.  The driver remained at the scene of the accident.  The driver was taken for a specimen sample, as per procedure, to thoroughly test for any elements in his system that may have impaired his driving ability.  The investigation is ongoing pending the results of the specimen sample.  The family of the deceased was notified of the accident.
