Child Falls from Shopping Cart Dad Gets Mad and Leaves Injured Child Behind at Store

Laredo Police Officers were dispatched to a grocery store at 2310 E. Saunders at approximately 7:30 pm for an abandoned child incident. When officers arrived they discovered that a 4yr old female child had been left behind in the store by a male subject. According to a witness, the child fell from a grocery cart and then the cart fell on top of her. The male subject then became angry with child and left the store, leaving the injured child behind, alone. The child’s mother eventually returned to the store for her daughter. Officers later found out that the male subject was the father of the little girl. Police located 33 yr old Modesto Guevara and placed in him under arrest for Abandoning a child and also Injury to a child, both Felony 1 counts. CPS was notified about the incident. The child was not seriously injured. Guevara was remanded to Webb County Jail under no bond.
