Laredo, TX – The City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated against Influenza A H1N1. The vaccine is safe, efficacious, and although H1N1 is still acting like seasonal “Flu” those at high risk can have serious complications. The best prevention method to reduce the risk of illness is preventive measures and vaccination.

Weather permitting, on-going construction on several of Laredo’s industrial street projects will include several closures, starting next. The City of Laredo contractor will coordinate with area businesses to maintain access. The traveling public should slow down, drive with extreme caution, and observe all safety signs, traffic control devices and flaggers in the work zone area.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) together with USDA Rural Development State Director Paco Valentin and Jim Hogg County Officials will announce Monday over $5.2 million in federal funding for the construction of a 48-bed detention center in Hebbronville, Texas. Jim Hogg County will receive $3,949,000 in federal grant funding and $1,317,000 in loan assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Assistance Funds Program.

The LPD Explorer post presented Chief Carlos Maldonado with the William H. Spurgeon award for the department’s excellent Explorer program. The LPD Explorers, led by Sergeant Eduardo S. Cabello, traveled to Corpus Christi, TX. The South Texas Council held the annual Awards Banquet on Friday Jan. 29 at the Lexington Ship. At about 2:12 am, LPD received a call of a theft on progress by the 1000 block of Ranch Way. The caller on the line reported that someone was stealing his neighbor’s motorcycles. Caller further stated that the suspects had just left the area in a pick-up truck, unknown make or model. Officers converged immediately covering all the outlets coming from the Mines Road area. Downtown officers were advised to cover the bridges as well.
