Crime Stoppers Tip Leads to Drug Bust

On January 20,2009, The Webb County Sheriff Office Crime Stoppers Division, received information on a residence located at the 1300 blk. of S, Malinche selling narcotics to minors. While Deputies attempted to investigate the tip, deputies observed two male subjects run out the back door of the residence and into their neighbors yard. While in pursuit of the subjects deputies observed another individual later identified as Arturo Riojas Jr. 19 years of age, who resides at the 1500 blk. of Piedra China, Laredo Texas, smoking a marijuana cigarette, When confronted, Riojas evaded detention by running, tossing a stolen 9mm handgun in the process along with a prescription bottle containing .8 grams of cocaine. Riojas was subsequently arrested after a foot chase and was charged with possession of cocaine, Possession of marijuana, Evading arrest/detention, unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm. In conclusion deputies seized in total 27 grams of cocaine with an estimated $1,700.00, 4 ounces of marijuana and a 9mm semi automatic handgun. The investigation will continue and other arrest are pending.
