 WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) today announced that the U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert M. Groves will tour the Border Colonias outside of Laredo , Texas , on Monday, February 1, 2010, to raise awareness throughout the community for the 2010 Census this spring.

With a full week of activities ranging from academic, artistic and talent to the deeply spiritual, the seven Catholic schools in the Diocese of Laredo will celebrate Catholic Schools Week 2010, January 30 to February 5, with most of the events occurring on the schools campuses.  The celebration kicks off tomorrow, Saturday, January 30 with the Catholic Schools Annual Academic Meet, in which children will compete in poetry (English and Spanish); science, math, religion and ready-writing.  The competition will take place at St. Augustine Schools, 1300 East Galveston, …

Man Arrested for Reckless Driving

On January 13, 2010 at the 1400 block of Green at approximately 7 a.m. two children walking to a school bus stop headed to Cigarroa Middle school, sisters Bernice 13 and Evelyn Gomez 11, were struck by a vehicle in front of Daiches Elementary School.  The driver Fabricio Ramirez, 46, was arrested on charges of Reckless Driving Class B.  The LPD C.R.A.S.H.  Laredo Independent School District’s Health Services Department recently completed H1N1 vaccine clinics for all its staff and students. LISD hosted 25 H1N1 vaccine clinics and immunized a total of 9,933 individuals vaccinated against H1N1.
 Since November, the LISD Health Services Department has immunized 6,876 students, which represents 27.20% of LISD student population, 548 staff members and 2,509 LISD community members (family and relatives) according to Patricia Keck, LISD Director of Health Services.

House Homeland Security Committee Appoints Cuellar as New Subcommittee Chairman in the House

Washington, DC – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) today announced that the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Bennie G. Thompson, has appointed him as the new Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border, Maritime and Global Counterterrorism.  For the second year in a row Martin High School students will be participating in the AT&T/ Junior Achievement Worldwide Job Shadow Initiative. More than 20 students will shadow 10 AT&T employees on Friday, January 29 at AT&T mobile store located at 5704 San Bernardo.
 Building on the program’s success and positive student impact, students will go back to work with AT&T employees as part of the initiative’s second year in Laredo.

 The Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts will be hosting a voter registration drive at all LISD high schools to register students to vote. On Friday January 29, the magnet school will visit Cigarroa High School at 8:15 a.m. and Nixon High at 10:15 a.m.
 The registration drive is a first for the VMT, where faculty and students are planning their Annual “Rock the Vote” event scheduled for Tuesday, February 2 on the campus grounds in downtown Laredo. Both events encourage local youth to learn …

Mayor Salinas will highlight Laredo on a national spotlight, promoting the major projects that the City of Laredo has received monies through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Bucks Battle Texas For Third Friday

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League host the Texas Brahmas Friday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks will host their second annual “Pink in the Rink” game. If the game is sold out the Bucks will donate $10,000 to WINGS. WINGS (Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving and Sharing) helps uninsured or underinsured women of Laredo receive treatment for breast cancer.
