St. Peter’s Memorial School Celebrates Grandparents Day

8 September 2009 No Comment

St. Peter’s Memorial School, which has been providing quality Catholic education in the Laredo community since 1925, will host its annual Grandparents’ Day Celebration.

“’It takes a village to raise a child.’  This is indeed very true.  It takes the efforts of parents, grandparents, relatives, school personnel, church parish and church families, neighborhood families, and the community as a whole to raise a child.  At St. Peter’s Memorial School, we are committed to providing a quality education to all children and have them develop spiritually, morally, intellectually, socially, culturally, and physically,” said Dr. Linda Marie Garcia Mitchell, principal for St. Peter’s Memorial School.  “We invite all grandparents to celebrate ‘Their Day’ with their grandchildren,” she concluded.

Grandparents will visit their grandchild’s classroom, to be able to meet with the child’s teachers and classmates, observe them in the classroom setting and participate in special songs and activities for them. They will then be escorted to the library and enjoy a reception of coffee and pan dulce and pastries in the school’s library, while listening to a presentation by school officials.

San Juanita De Los Reyes, whose grandson, Matthew De Los Reyes, is now enrolled in St. Peter’s in K-3, is looking forward to attending the annual reception.  “It is so wonderful that the school remembers the grandparents and involves us in our grandchildren’s academic lives.  It reinforces the importance of family, which is a very important part of our Catholic beliefs, as well,” she concluded.
