TxDOT Gets Social with Facebook, Twitter and YouTube

AUSTIN– The Texas Department of Transportation doesn’t just try to keep traffic flowing, they try to keep information flowing, too.

To better inform and engage the public, TxDOT is now using several social media platforms to discuss area highways and projects, statewide programs, and other transportation-related initiativesin Texas.

TxDOT joins the chorus of tweets on Twitter, a micro-blog that allows the department to provide important travel updates and news in 140 characters or less. TxDOT also has its own Facebook page and YouTubechannel to involve individuals in a quick, accessible and personable manner.

“We’re always looking for new ways to interact and communicate with the public, and participating in social networking allows us to accomplish this mission,” said TxDOT Executive Director Amadeo Saenz. “It has already proved to be helpful in communicating important emergency information, traffic updates and lane closures, and we intend to continue using this technology in the future.”
