Sheriff’s Deputies Seize 278 pounds of marijuana near Mangana Hein

 Laredo, Texas –  Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies seized 278 pounds of marijuana inside a late model Chevy pickup truck.
 On Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at approximately 7:18 pm after conducting a traffic stop on Highway 83 South, at Mangana Hein,  Sheriff’s Deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle and proceeded to search. Deputies discovered 4 large bundles of marijuana with a weight of 278 pounds at an approximate street value of $140,000.

BRONCOS SWEPT AWAY BY THUNDER

August 27, 2009-Robstown, TX-The Laredo Broncos gave up three runs in the eighth, as they lost to the Coastal Bend Thunder by a score of 5-3 at Fairgrounds Field, on Thursday.
The Thunder started the scoring in the second inning.  They had the bases loaded with no one out, when Bryan Vickers knocked in Manny Mejia with a single.  The next batter Kevin Butler reached on a fielder’s choice, which saw Alex Fernandez score.  That gave Coastal Bend the early 2-0 lead.

AUSTIN-South Texas citizens will have an opportunity to talk transportation at a town hall meeting scheduled next week in Kingsville.

BRONCOS ROAD STRUGGLES CONTINUE AGAINST THUNDER

August 26, 2009-Robstown, TX-The Laredo Broncos offense only managed four hits, as they lost to the Coastal Bend Thunder by a score of 7-3 at Fairgrounds Field, on Wednesday.
The Thunder started the scoring in the bottom of the first.  Leivi Ventura hit an rbi single that scored Dustin Smith.  Alex Fernandez then hit a double that scored Amadeo Zazueta.  Later in the inning, Carlos Rodriguez hit an rbi groundout that scored Ventura.  That made the score 3-0.

Routine Stop Leads to Money Seizure

On Friday August 21, 2009 a routine traffic stop rendered more than just a traffic citation.  While working routine traffic enforcement beat on a busy street an officer pulled over a tractor trailer rig with Mexican plates for a routine traffic violation.  The officer noticed that the driver was acting suspiciously and was nervous.  The officer asked the driver for consent to search the truck and the driver consented.  The officer, along with other officers searched the truck and discovered a tool box with 7 wrapped bundles of …

Fidel Benavides Arrested for Animal Cruelty

 On Wednesday August 18, 2009 an anonymous report of animal cruelty was given to Animal Control Division officers who went to 3500 S. Milmo.  There they witnessed a pit bull with recently trimmed ears. The animal looked mistreated and the surgery infected.  The officers summoned the help of LPD investigators who interviewed the owner of the dog who stated that a man named Fidel had performed the ear surgery at a home. Upon further investigation the man who had performed the surgery was identified as Fidel Benavides, age 52, who …

Improper relationship between a student and an educator

On Tuesday August 25, 2009 Laredo Police arrested 33 yr. old Jose Rogelio Morales, a high school art teacher, for improper relationship between a student and an educator F/2 and sexual assault (Non Forcible) F/2.  This case was opened July 22, 2009 when the parents of a 16 yr. old female discovered emails between their child and Mr. Morales.  The Laredo Police Special Investigations Unit handled the investigation.  The parents consented to hand over the daughter’s computer to police investigators.  The investigators extracted over 100 e-mails between the …
