BRONCOS LOSE ON WALKOFF


broncosAugust 10, 2009-Edinburg, TX-The Laredo Broncos had an early lead but could not hold it, as they lost to the Edinburg Roadrunners by a score of 5-4 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium, on Monday.

The Broncos started the scoring in the first inning.  Luis Ugueto and Robert Moron both reached on errors by the Roadrunners defense.  Ugueto then stole third base, and scored on a Mario Mendez sacrifice fly.  Laredo had the early 1-0 lead.

The Broncos added on to their lead in the second.  With one out David Cardona singled and then went to third on a double by Andres Santos.  Jaime Morales knocked both runners in with a double.  The score was now 3-0.

The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard in their half of the second.  Osiel Flores hit a rbi double that scored Vincent Blue.  The lead was now 3-1 in favor of Laredo.

The Broncos extended their lead in the third inning.  Argelis Nunez doubled with two outs, and then scored on a single by Luany Sanchez.  That made the score 4-1.

Edinburg struck again in the fourth.  Nick Aranda hit a two run home run, his first of the season.  The score was now 4-3.

The Roadrunners tied up the game in the fifth.  With the bases loaded Vincent Blue hit a sacrifice fly.  Scoring on the play was Robert Matlock to the tie the game at four.

Broncos’ starter Will Palmer was taken out of the game after five innings.  He gave up four runs, on five hits, walked four, and struck out two.  Jason Herman came into the game for Laredo.

The Broncos had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth.  Luis Ugueto doubled with two outs.  Robert Moron then singled into right field.  Ugueto tried scoring on the play, but was thrown out at home plate to keep the game tied.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Roadrunners loaded the bases with no one out, off of reliever Julio Pinto.  The Broncos brought in Franklyn Gracesqui to try to get out of the jam.  On the second pitch, Gracesqui threw a wild pitch. Scoring on the play was Carlos Hereaud as the Broncos dropped their fifth straight by a score of 5-4.

The Broncos scored 4 runs on 8 hits and had 1 error while the Roadrunners scored 4 runs on 7 hits and had 3 errors.

The Broncos are now 21-38 on the season while the Roadrunners are 32-27.  The Broncos will next be in action Tuesday August 11th, as they play the finale of a four game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners at 7:05 in Edinburg.  You can listen to that game and all 80 Broncos games this year on our website www.laredobroncos.com through our partners at www.sportsujuice.com.
