TxDOT Requests Input from Transportation Partners on Project Planning Process

AUSTIN-Consistent with its values of encouraging local participation, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) today posted Notice of Opportunity to Comment (http://www.txdot.gov/public_involvement/public_comment/rules_change.htm) to encourage input from transportation partners across the state on the restructuring of the department’s system of project planning, funding and programming.

TxDOT began the process to make revisions to the agency’s program rules more than a year ago after it became apparent in discussions with the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission that legislators wanted the department to develop a transparent, well-defined, and understandable program for transportation planning and project development. The department is seeking both general ideas and specific language suggestions.

Though TxDOT has always sought input from local and regional leaders, this formal request for comment will reinforce the message that local participation is critical to developing rules for a comprehensive program that will benefit the entire state of Texas, said Amadeo Saenz, TxDOT executive director.

“First, it’s consistent with our values-supporting local participation. More importantly, it’s what legislators want us to do,” he noted.

Comments may be submitted to Robin Carter with TxDOT’s legal office at rcarter@dot.state.tx.us or mailed to Bob Jackson, General Counsel, 125 East 11th Street, Austin, Texas  78701. The deadline for receipt of comments is 5 p.m. August 10, 2009.
