Work will close street to thru traffic for one day
 The City of Laredo Traffic Safety Division crew will be working in the installation of speed hump cushions on Kimberly Drive on Saturday, July 25, 2009 from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Kimberly Drive will be closed for thru traffic.  
 Motorists are urged to drive with caution and observe all traffic signs around the area.  For more information, please call the Traffic Safety Division office at (956) 795-2550.

Déjà vu, West Texas United Visiting Laredo, Championship at Stake

After 16 regular season Premier Development League (PDL) games, the West Texas United Sockers (8 – 5 – 3 / 27 points) and the Laredo Heat Soccer Club (7 – 1 – 8 / 29 points) are set to play for the Mid-South Division Championship this coming Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Texas A&M International Soccer Complex. Kick-off is set for 8:00 PM.

Texas Public School Teachers Will Receive $800 Pay Raise
Washington D.C.- The Texas Democratic Congressional Delegation announced today that Texas Public School teachers will receive an $800 pay raise through more than $2 billion now available for Texas under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.  The raises will be included in school budgets for this upcoming school year.
This funding will lay the foundation for a generation of education reform and help save hundreds of thousands of teaching jobs at risk of state and local budget cuts.  Texas …

Man’s Generosity Endangers His Life and His Children

 On Monday July 20, 2009 at approximately 9:18 a.m. Laredo Police Communication received a 911 call from a residence at the 1500 block of Wilfrano Dr.  Once Officers arrived at the scene they knocked and rang the doorbell and no one answered. Officers checked the home from the outside of the residence looking through the house windows. One of the officers looked through a window and observed a man. On Wednesday July 22, 2009 a report was filed at the Civic Center Pool in which unknown subjects had broken into the pool premises.  The suspects then broke into a storage shed on site and removed paint cans and spilled the paints into the pool’s water and around the pool’s property.  Apparently a lead developed when city employees told detectives from the crimes against property division that they had kicked out a group of teens the afternoon before for flagrant “lude” behavior when they bothered a group of girls at …

On Thursday, July 23, 2009, the Laredo Police Department Narcotics Unit and patrol K-9 unit recovered 384 Lbs. of Marijuana from a 1997 Blue Ford Expedition at the intersection of Loop20& Merida.  Subjects Thomas Grajeda  and Alberto Alexis Vasquez were arrested for Possession of Marijuana F/2nd. They were both transported to the Laredo Police Department where they were processed and book.  Both Subjects were later transported to the Webb County Jail where they were placed under a no bond pending Magistration.   The total value of the marijuana is $ 161,664.00.

WIN CRAZY GAME AGAINST DILLAS

July 24, 2009-Amarillo, TX-the Laredo Broncos blew two three run leads, but still won the game against the Amarillo Dillas by a score of 12-9 at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa, on Friday.
For the second straight night, the Dillas started the scoring in the first inning.  Carlos Figueroa knocked in Keanon Simon with a rbi double.  Then with two outs and the bases loaded, Broncos’ starter Gregorio Martinez walked Eric Brown to score Terrance McClain.  That gave Amarillo a 2-0 lead.
