Local pro-immigrant groups will convene at the CCA facility located near Saunders and Loop 20. The demonstration will take place on August 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m and includes a march from the HEB parking lot on Saunders to the immigrant detention center. The protest is against the nationwide detention of immigrants that has been steadily occurring in the last few years. This group of people hopes to bring awareness to a national dilemma that is taking place on a day to day basis in our community.

At a Laredo Heat press conference earlier today, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas was on hand to not only wish luck to our team, but also, to welcome the three other teams to Laredo who will be participating in this weekend’s tournament. Teams from Seattle, Tampa Florida and Ventura County, California are in town, hoping to advance to the next round of play-offs. Standing in their way are Laredo’s own premier soccer team. Laredo, Texas – On Wednesday, July 29, 2009, The Webb County Sheriff’s Office received a Crime Stoppers tip stating that several suspicious male subjects were unloading large black bags into a residence at the 3000 block of Santa Maria.
Narcotics investigators responded to the call followed by a 2 ½ hour investigation. A subject, identified as Juan Francisco Fuentes from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, was observed entering and exiting the residence. Laredo, Texas – On Thursday, July 30, 2009, at approximately 12:45 pm, a missing inmate from Webb County jail, Francisco Javier Ruedas, Jr. was apprehended.
Sheriff Martin Cuellar, with the assistance of Federal and State Law Enforcement Agencies as well as Policia Municipal De Nuevo Laredo, captured Ruedas after a 4 day man hunt. Sheriff Cuellar met with the Mexican Officials half way at Bridge 1 in order to extradite Ruedas back to the United States.

After many meetings and countless hours of work in the past few months, Webb County Judge Danny Valdez will be filing the proposed 2009-2010 Webb County Budget at the Webb County Clerk’s Office on Friday, July 31. The Judge will present the proposed budget to Webb County Clerk Margie Ramirez Ibarra.
