Washington, D.C. – Congressman Henry Cuellar announced today a $152,031 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Disadvantaged Nursing Student Scholarships (DNSS) program.
The funding will allow TAMIU to provide financial assistance to up to 30 full time, economically-disadvantaged students from underrepresented racial/ethnic minority groups who are currently enrolled in the university’s nursing program. TAMIU will award the scholarships to juniors and seniors who meet the eligibility criteria and who are in good academic standing.

LAREDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RECEIVES FUNDS FOR RUNWAY

    Congressman Cuellar announces  additional $2.5 million in federal funding for runway rehabilitation, bringing Fiscal Year 2009 total to more than $19 million

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Henry Cuellar today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded an additional $2.5 million to the Laredo International Airport to rehabilitate runway 17R/35L. The monies are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the job creation bill that was enacted by Congress earlier this year.

El Cenizo Mayor Meets with Congressman Cuellar

El Cenizo’s Mayor Raul Reyes met with Congressman Cuellar  at his Washington D.C. office.  The Mayor is in town until Thursday with various official meetings on Capitol Hill. On Monday he met with the Congressman to discuss some of the city’s grant applications which are still pending.

The Laredo Broncos battled, but an error in the
bottom of the 9th led to the Costal Bend Thunder sweeping the Broncos by a
score of 3-2 at Fairgrounds Field.
The Broncos had runners on 1st and 3rd with no one out in the first inning,
but Mario Mendez, Argelis Nunez, and Andres Santos were not able to bring
the runner in from 3rd.  However, the Thunder would strike in their half of

Laredo, TX—June 22, 2009—Last Friday, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas underwent minor surgery and is now recovering well at home.  Because of the success of the surgery, Salinas will return to work in a few days; however, he will continue to perform some lesser mayoral duties from home until he is fully recovered and back at City Hall, working for the citizens of Laredo.

Although, the City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) has not received any reports for the past three (3) days we have received confirmation from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) laboratory system on four (4) pending suspects.  In total the City of Laredo now has 39 confirmed cases.  All cases are well, have recovered, none are hospitalized and there is no secondary spread.

TEAM CABALLERO HOSTS SUCCESSFULL PLATE SALE

Team Caballero (Juan Caballero, Family and Friends) gathered together on Saturday to greet hundreds of supporters that turned out for a plate sale at Auto Zone (McPherson & Hillside) this past Saturday.  Team Caballero braved the heat putting together plates that consisted of Sirloin Steak, Rice, and Beans.  The mesquite cooked steak was donated by Constable Rudy Rodriguez and was cooked by the Knights of Columbus.  The rice and beans were donated by Anahi Snacks and Catering and cooked by South Laredo cooking legend Candelario “Cande” Rodriguez.  Plate sale started at …

This past Friday June 19th 2009, the Laredo Entertainment Center in Laredo,Texas, was electric as ESPN Friday Night Fights invaded the border city with an action packed six fight card promoted by Banner Promotions. The non televised portion of the undercard saw Cestus Management’s two up-and-coming prospects  Robert “NIGHTHAWK” Luna Jr. and Rodolfo “BABY COBRA” Gomez in action in their respective fights.
