(Laredo, TX)  The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is going hi-tech to inform motorists about lane closures and construction related activity. TxDOT’s Laredo District is now posting important highway information on Twitter, the popular and free message utility available worldwide.

“This is a great way to keep the public informed on what is happening on area highways and roads,” said Albert Quintanilla, P.E., Laredo District Engineer. “It gives the public up-to-date information on lane closures and other important information concerning our highway projects.”

Becoming a follower of the Laredo District’s Twitter page is easy and free. Simply visit http://twitter.com/txdotlaredo and click on the follow button. TxDOT will not only send out important information on lane closures, it will also put out any breaking news concerning transportation-related projects or emergencies in the eight-county district.

“It’s a high-tech world,” said Quintanilla. “Communication is important and always changing. We are working to keep in step with those changes.”

TxDOT’s Twitter information will cover transportation-related activities in Duval, Webb, La Salle, Dimmit, Zavala, Maverick, Kinney and Val Verde Counties
