Davalos Gym trains local talent for professional boxing

The Friends of the Library Spring Used Book Sale will be held this weekend, Saturday, May 2, 2009 and Sunday May 3, 2009 at the Laredo Public Library at 1120 East Calton Road, during regular Library hours.  There will be something for everyone, at bargain basement prices.  The proceeds of this event will help provide financial support for special projects to enhance library service, augment the library’s book collection and elevate the community’s awareness of the education opportunities available at the Laredo Public Library

    Learn to improve communication to relieve stress at the next professional development course, “Workplace Stressors,” scheduled for Thursday, April 30 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall 116.

New Swine Flu Hotline at the City of Laredo Health Department

The swine flu hotline phone number for the City of Laredo Health Department has changed.  If anyone has questions, concerns or needs clarification regarding swine flu, symptoms, preventive measures or other issues, please call (956) 795-4921.The Texas Department of State Health Services has a flu hotline in place for the general public.  The number is 888-777-5320.

     Tomorrow,  Wednesday April 29, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’  Recital Hall  will ring to the sound of Broadway hits, old and new. Admission is free of charge and open to the public.

Dear University Community,There have also been three cases of possible swine flu found in Nuevo Laredo, with no deaths and one hospitalization. Final determination of the cases will take up to seven days.  All Nuevo Laredo schools have been closed.

While there have been no cases in Laredo, Texas A&M International University is monitoring the situation along with the City of Laredo Health Department, schools, physicians and hospitals  and advises all TAMIU students to be aware of their health status.

Aggravated robber arrested

 
On Thursday April 23rd at approximately 10am an unknown male subject walked into “Moreno’s Short Stop” convenience store located at 2800 of Springfield; brandished a knife, threatened the clerk with body injury demanding the register’s money.
 
          LPD’s Homicide and Robbery division conducted a follow-up investigation which included interviews of witnesses, potential suspects and review of surveillance video. Subsequently the suspect was identified as Randy Valverde, 19 of 500 E Kearney.  He was brought in for questioning and after a voluntary statement admitting to the robbery he charged with Aggravated …

Although at this time there are no confirmed cases of “Swine” Flu in Laredo, TX, there have been 20 cases of “Swine” Flu confirmed in the U.S. spanning 5 states, one of which is Texas.  
The CLHD will be issuing information as it becomes available to us.  Additionally, we are recommending that the public stay informed with the latest information.   Presently, there are no additional precautions or travel restrictions.  
The City of Laredo Health Department is taking all the necessary precautions.  We have enhanced surveillance monitoring and are continuing to investigate …
