What message are our public servants sending us by doing this during an economic crisis? What happened to all the so called voices for the community that we have elected? Face it the payscale in Laredo is very minimal we barely make enough to make ends meet now don’t get me wrong I know its the law but isn’t there another option for this situation? Does a vehicle really have to be impounded? How do they expect the owner of the vehicle to get to work not only to support his family but to earn enough money to pay his ticket and to recover his car. The city and county recently either received money or a pledge from the federal government from the bailout money what doesn’t the local government do something for us the taxpayers and the voters either with that money or if anything out of the kindness of their hearts after all the money that came from the federal government came out of the kindness of someones heart to help bailout local governments at a time when we need a bailout of sorts our local leaders turn their back on us this is the time that someone should have stepped up to the plate for us and said you know what we will used some of that money to help insure or reduce insurance rates for the good citizens of Laredo if anything at least for the ones who are working and need their vehicles to commute to work. This decision can only further hurt our local economy this takes away valuable money from circulation has everyone forgotten that we the people are the ones who keep the money flowing so that we can all have jobs take away this basic fundamental of business (cash flow) and we are screwed as a city. In the upcoming elections please do not vote for Mayor Salinas, Webb County Judge Danny Valdez or anyone else who forgets about their voters.

Laredoans, the poorest of our nation, are subjected once again to the total ill-representation applied by our local officials. I spoke with Dr. Landeck said about impoundment. He told that it’s wrong and he does not support such and ordinance. However, he did mention that it is an ordinance and can be amended or removed. We, as taxpayers, can help Dr. Landeck amend or removing such an ordinance by removing the officials that supported this impoundment ordinance and removing the officials that idly stood by and did nothing. Our officials, if they truly are representing our better interest should be pounding down doors nationwide in an honest attempt to improve the quality of life of all Laredoans, and not just insurance sales representatives; they should be bringing better paying jobs to Laredo so that we can all have our vehicles, including our homes insured. How many times has a Laredoan family been thrown out on the street for a home fire? Many times. Did this family have home insurance? NO, they didn’t because they could barely afford to pay for the property taxes. And pay for an 100% increment on Water Utilities brought up by Councilman Mike Garza.
Jesus Flores wrote a very good article in the Laredo Morning Times opinion page for the date Saturday, May 2nd 2009 speaking about wasteful spending of our local officials where he petitions the removal of most. I have to agree with him. Our offials have shown that they only care about themselves and will not stop at nothing to alter or destroying our way of life. Vote them all out. Vote our fresh new blood. Remove most of top city maanagment and most of the so-called “ready to take the next higher step in local government” City of Laredo Dept. Directors. They serve us in a manner which is so insulting.
Off topic but with reality. You have a superintendent earning 215k a year and his personal picks, that earn just as good an income. Then you have the rest of us whom are lucky to get minimum wage if you can hold on to a stable job long enough. Then you have our catering business such as restaurants who pay their employees much lower wages of about 3 dollars an hour. How many restaurants do we have in Laredo? Thousands, of which pay meager wages to employees that have to pay 100 a week in gasoline to get to work. 100 dollars a month in Utilities because of Garza’s ideas and from there they have to pay for at the least liability ins. on their vehicle for if they are pulled over and don’t have such proof their vehicle will be impounded.
To the well-to-do and powers-that-be people of Laredo and Webb County, shame on you for not speaking out regarding this impoundment. I do understand that if a non-insured driver collides with your vehicle you will be stuck with the bill. You know, it’s only a car, it’s not your livelihood. Poor in Laredo need your help to improve their lives. Putting them down is not the correct message. The impoundment ordinance is a step in the wrong direction. It is in the way of progress. I repeat, Laredoans are the poorest in our nation. Let’s find mediation for all. I request that local ins companies now that all Laredoans are insured to lower the rates. And for visitors coming to Laredo, make sure your vehicle is insuured or you will be left on the street waiting for the empty trolley to give you a lift.

Election time is nearing folks remember these issues when you are in the voting booth. Put an end to our local corruption vote everyone out bring in public servants that represent the people. Enough with these trips to Washington, raises, and expensive lunches. When you sell your vote you end up paying it back for the duration of their terms just ask the people in South Laredo how much they havent had to pay back for voting in JP Ramiro Veliz Jr. Las malas deciciones nos cuesta a todos.

Has anyone stoped and think, how big was the cut that elected officials got from insurance companies????. Remeber , on the past your driving record, your age were taken in consideration to get your quote, now your credit report is the one they only look for. As you now most of us wich earn a very poor salary we have at least one debt in our credit wich makes rise our insurance price. Im kind of sad, the way local politicians are handling this beutiful city, they are propably worst than those corrupt politicians in Mexico starting with that fat salinas. Im sad the way they treat us , we are not the ones getting paid the thousands they are getting paid, we are not the ones driving new cars bought from our city taxes, we are not the ones getting free insurance form insurance companies just because this law passed,we are not the cops , sherrifs, dps officials driving those brand new cars to our homes. unfortunately we were the ones electing them.i just hope god dont leave us alone because this bastards they already have.
